I have no strong feeling on this, although either the registration has
to be removed or the RFC has to be updated. It is a very odd
registration, so I doubt in practice that anyone will miss it. On the
other hand, I think it is completely reprehensible for country codes
or language codes to be removed, so I can see your point.

This text doesn't need to change, since it still says "should".
(Although the RFC ideally should change so that only these characters
are permitted. Then the addition or not of () depends on what is done
above.
