registration of our character sets

Hello,

on behalf of Fujitsu-Siemens Computers I'd like to have character sets registered. Attached you find a first attempt for one (of at least 3) sets. Please let me know, whether this is enough or what else I should do.

Thanks in advance

Guenther Kammermeier

Abstract

This document provides information about character encoding OSD_EBCDIC_DF03_IRV
(Fujitsu-Siemens standard mainframe EBCDIC encoding, which is widely spread in
Europe, IRV stands for International Reference Version), which is a de-facto
standard in Europe for information interchange on BS2000 mainframe systems of
Fujitsu-Siemens Computer.

This charset is suitable for use in MIME text body parts.

Introduction

Though the proposed character set "OSD_EBCDIC_DF03_IRV" is not currently an
international standard, there is a large user community using BS2000 mainframe
systems supporting it.

Originally, specification of proposed standard "OSD_EBCDIC_DF03_IRV" was
officially adopted by the BS2000 systems and is documented in the Fujitsu-
Siemens Manual of the product XHCS
http://manuals.fujitsu-siemens.com/servers/bs2_man/man_us/dcam/v14_0/xhcs.pdf
(page 136f).

OSD_EBCDIC_DF03_IRV is developed as a single byte encoding for all contemporary
characters.

Requirements

Characteristics:

  - The proposed charset conforms to the definition of a "charset"
as defined in 2.4 of RFC 2278.

  - The proposed charset is suitable for use in MIME.

  - The proposed charset is specified in a stable, openly available
    specification.

New Charsets:

  - The proposed charset is NOT a new charset. Since 1980's it is in
use on the BS2000 mainframe systems.

  - This charset is suitable for use in MIME text body parts.

  - The proposed charset is specified in a stable, openly available
    specification

Name:

  - proposed name for the charset is "OSD_EBCDIC_DF03_IRV"

Preferred MIME name:

  - The preferred MIME name is "OSD_EBCDIC_DF03_IRV"

Functionality:

  - The proposed charset functions as an actual charset.

  - The name conforms to the ABNF definition in sec 3.3 of RFC 2978.

Usage and Implementation:

OSD_EBCDIC_DF03_IRV (BS2000 mainframe standard) is a de-facto standard on the
BS2000 mainframe operating system including encoding tables, fonts, locales for
many operating systems and environments.

Publication:

The proposed charset was published and approved in the documentation of the
Fujitsu-Siemens product XHCS (BS2000/OSD):
 http://manuals.fujitsu-siemens.com/servers/bs2_man/man_us/dcam/v14_0/xhcs.pdf
(see page 136f)

The reference table between OSD_EBCDIC_DF03_IRV and Unicode is shown below.

MIBenum:

A MIBenum value for the proposed charset will be assigned by IANA at the time of
registration
